Ahhh! It’s finally here. This is the tool you need to jailbreak your iPhone, on the 3.0 firmware. This works for the iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and the 1st gen iPod Touch. This is Pwnage Tool 3.0, and ONLY WORKS ON MAC. QuickPwn is on the way, they are still working on it.

Since I’m such a nice guy, I thought I would help you all out. Here’s the custom firmware already built, for iPhone 2G. Just download and restore in iTunes:
iPhone 3G Custome Firmware 3.0 (UPDATE: This torrent has been removed, because someone complained about it not working. The firmware worked fine, people just didn;t know what they were doing. I’m not going to re-upload this one, sorry)
Just remeber, the 3G custom firmware will not unlock your 3G. You still have to wait for UltraSn0w to be released. If your not on a legit carrier, just wait a bit longer to install. iPhone 2G owners have nothing to worry about.
UPDATE: (June 20th, 2009) – Another jailbreak tool has been released from the amazing iPhone Dev Team. This one is called “redsn0w”, and it is “an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking (iPhone 2G only) tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation)”. Now, Mac and Windows users can get their devices, on OS 3.0, jailbroken.
There have been reports of issues with Cydia and some other “jailbreak only” apps, not working as smoothly as the did on 2.2.1. This is completely normal, and all the bugs will be worked out eventually. Just give Saurik and the other developers some time to work out the kinks.
Next from the Dev Team, will probably for “UltraSn0W’, the software unlock for iPhone 3G. After that we can expect a new QuickPwn, and then hopefully a jailbreak for the new iPhone 3GS.
Is the 3G custom firmware “hacktivated”? That is does it require activation?
Partition size? Custom boot images?
Thanks
the 3G is activated, but not unlocked. Still need UltraSn0w to unlock, if you’re not on a legit carrier.
3G has no custom boot logos and is the default partition on 512mb.
Hi Rory, Thanks for doing this. Could you please post specs of how the 2G custom firmware is built, before I install? i.e. was it done with the “simple setting” and is it set for “phone plan activates through iTunes” or for an alternative carrier?
question, i am using windows xp with itune 8.2, 3G, can i still use your custom fireware??? thanks
@Andrew: 2G has same specs: no boot logos, default partition. Activated. Just put your SIM card in.
@ray: Yes. Connect your iPhone. Hold “Shift”, click Restore, and point to where ever you saved the new firmware. iTunes does the rest. Only do this if you’re on a legit carrier. No unlock for 3G yet. Have to wait for UltraSn0w, in Cydia.
Oh yeah, both firmwares also include “Icy”, Installer’s replacement.
1604 error, thanks, but i guess i will need to wait for official quickpwn 3.0. thanks
Sorry it didn’t work for you.
^same as above…i thought the “mac only” part had to do with creating the firmware on pwnagetool (since the program is only for mac os right now), once you have uploaded the custom firmware(s), in theory i can download them on xp/vista as long as i have itunes 8.2 right?
@mo: yes, that’s my understanding. You need the latest iTunes (8.2). Do a fresh, legit restore in iTunes. Then put your iPhone in DFU mode. Then do the “Shift” Restore method, pointing to the custom firmware.
I’ve heard of a few people not getting it to work, so good luck.
It worked for me. Thanks man.
@Bill: That’s great! Glad I could help.
Works great! thanks!!
@Andrew: Terrific!
says “torrent has been removed” when I click on 3G version
Yeah, I noticed that. I’ve updated this post.
I updated my iPhone 2G from 2.1 to 3.0 directly in iTunes by clicking Update. The phone did the restore and install of 3.0. Afterwards, the phone remained activated/unlocked!
The jailbreak was gone, but I did not have to use any tools to activate/unlock it like I did in the past!
@Gary: Yeah, I remember that happened when I went from 2.1 to 2.2, but this time I had to re-pwn.
hi! how can i update my iPhone 2G to 3.0 from iTunes without locking it again like what happen to my phone before?
@ben2ng_8478: What you want to do is, connect your iPhone to iTunes. Select your iPhone from the menu on the left, then click Update. iTunes will give you 2 options: Download Only, or Download and Install. Click Download Only. When that’s done, use the Pwnage tool to create a custom firmware, and update with that.
If you’re not on a Mac, to use the Pwnage Tool, then you might want to try digging through the torrent sites, to find an already built custom firmware. You might find one here: http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1965325/23484470/
